Workshop

Starting with a promising idea, each team developed its game mechanics, spatial interactions and narrative experience into a presentable XR game prototype.

Design the game
before writing the code

This hands-on workshop was created for future game makers. It focused on the heart of game design: ideas, gameplay and experience. Students explored virtual reality first-hand and worked in teams to turn their concepts into VR game prototypes.

The workshop welcomed students who love games, are curious about VR, AR and MR, or want to understand user experience and game design. Learning began with core loops, challenges and rewards before moving into VR interactions such as grabbing, throwing, spatial puzzles and comfortable locomotion.

Core Design Thinking

Build a compelling core loop, create meaningful challenges and rewards, and understand how games produce a state of flow.

VR Interaction

Explore hand-based grabbing, throwing, object manipulation, spatial puzzles and comfortable locomotion.

A Team Project

Develop an XR game prototype and game description, then organise the outcome as a portfolio entry.

From concept to presentation

Smart Car Team

Another team assembled, programmed and demonstrated a smart car. As the group did not submit a complete project file, this section documents their collaboration and hands-on process through photographs.

By the end of the workshop, students had organised their prototype, design rationale and presentation materials into a portfolio-ready project entry.
